On May 7, loved ones and mentors gathered at the Virginia War Memorial to not only celebrate the Class of 2026’s graduation, but the start of the next chapter. Upon completing their studies at VCU School of Dentistry, twelve dental students will be saying goodbye to Richmond and dispersing across the country to serve as military dentists. 

As participants in the U.S. Military Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), these twelve students will pledge a year-for-year commitment to service in exchange for education. The program provides a unique opportunity for students to learn dentistry and later serve their country.

At this year’s ceremony, Kevin Noall, D.D.S., retired Colonel of the USAF, provided remarks and Sara Stires, D.D.S., retired Captain of the USN, and VCU SoD alum, gave a heartfelt speech to the new dentists about the honor and challenge of serving the country. Inductees were pinned by their family members before enjoying a reception to close out the ceremony.
