Dr. Bryan Limmer named director of the Division of Prosthodontics at VCU School of Dentistry
Bryan Limmer, D.M.D., M.S., has been named the director of the Division of Prosthodontics and the director of undergraduate implant dentistry at VCU School of Dentistry.
Limmer joins VCU from Greenwood Village, Colorado, where he was the Chief Operating Officer and Clinical Director of Stanbrick Dental Services, a multi-location, multi-specialty dental practice. Prior to that, Limmer started a private prosthodontic practice outside of Denver, Colorado, which he maintained for more than seven years. His experience in academia also includes a faculty appointment at Harvard University.
“After an extensive and competitive search to complement our Prosthodontics faculty, it is with great enthusiasm that I announce Dr. Limmer’s role,” said Lyndon Cooper, D.D.S., Ph.D., dean of VCU School of Dentistry. “With his expertise and vision, Dr. Limmer will lead a strong team of prosthodontics faculty and will continue to advance and expand our prosthodontics and implant dentistry predoctoral and graduate education at the School of Dentistry.”
Limmer received his D.M.D. degree from Harvard University in 2009 and earned a Master of Science and certificate in Prosthodontics at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in Implantology at the University of North Carolina.
“If you would have asked any of my classmates in dental school or residency, what they thought my career path would be, I suspect most of them would have said Academia,” said Limmer. “However, that was not an option for me right away, and my path took a detour through private clinical practice and DSO management. With this opportunity to join the VCU School of Dentistry, I feel an immense sense of excitement and engagement.”
An avid lifelong-learner, Limmer is a nationally renowned expert in restorative and implant dentistry who specializes in complex reconstructive dentistry. He has lectured extensively and written multiple peer-reviewed articles on various prosthodontic topics, including edentulous therapy, zirconia biomaterials and digital technology.
“Ultimately the reason I chose to join VCU is that I believe in the vision and mission that Dean Lyndon Cooper has described of the School of Dentistry, where we collectively strive towards excellence in both teaching and practicing patient centered dentistry. Prosthodontics can be a leader in that aim, and I wanted to be a part of it, contributing in whatever ways I'm able.”
