Dr. Bryan Limmer named interim chair of the Department of Prosthodontics

Bryan Limmer, D.M.D., M.S., has been named the interim chair of the Department of Prosthodontics at VCU School of Dentistry, effective June 10.

Limmer joined VCU in August 2024 as the director of the Division of Prosthodontics and the director of undergraduate implant dentistry. Since his arrival, Limmer has been an integral part of school advancements in predoctoral prosthodontics, the CAD CAM laboratory, the implant dentistry program and the graduate program which will welcome its first cohort of residents later this month.

“Dr. Limmer brings with him a wealth of knowledge, skills as an outstanding researcher and clinical leadership from his previous roles,” said Lyndon Cooper, D.D.S., Ph.D., dean of VCU School of Dentistry “We are delighted to have Dr. Limmer at the School of Dentistry and I am eager to see him excel in this new interim role.”

Reflecting on his appointment, Limmer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead.

“I sincerely appreciate the trust that Dean Cooper has placed in me to lead this group and am excited to see what our department can accomplish in the coming years,” said Limmer.

A nationally recognized expert in restorative and implant dentistry, Limmer specializes in complex reconstructive care. Before joining VCU, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Clinical Director of Stanbrick Dental Services, a multi-location, multi-specialty dental practice based in Greenwood Village, Colorado. He also previously owned and operated a private prosthodontic practice near Denver for more than seven years.

His experience in academia also includes a faculty appointment at Harvard University.

He earned his D.M.D. from Harvard in 2009 and completed a Master of Science and certificate in Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012, followed by a fellowship in implant dentistry at UNC.

As interim chair, Limmer says one of his top priorities will be increasing awareness of and access to prosthodontic care at VCU School of Dentistry.

“If we strive to deliver excellence in all aspects of patient care, a great educational experience will follow,” he said.

Looking ahead, Limmer sees continued growth and innovation on the horizon for the department.

“One of the great strengths of the Prosthodontic Department is the diversity of talents within the team,” said Limmer. “I believe that this will allow us to evolve in a more global manner, engaging and experimenting with new techniques, technologies, processes, and practice models.
