Faculty feature: Meet Michael King, D.D.S.

Michael King, D.D.S., joined VCU School of Dentistry in the fall as an assistant professor in the Department of General Practice. He received his D.D.S. from University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He served in the US Navy as head dentist on board the USS Nashville. King joined VCU after working in private practice in Woodbridge, Virginia for the past 27 years. 

 

Why did you choose to be a dentist and an educator?
“My hometown dentist, Dr. Barry Herbst, looked like he had lots of fun at his office and "Dentist" placed high on my "interest test". So I went for it.”
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
“Working with people!  I love the patients and my colleagues!”
What are you most looking forward to at VCU School of Dentistry?
“Teaching and interacting with the students and learning more from colleagues.”
What lessons and values do you hope to instill in your students?
“That if you learn to care deeply for your patients it will help you practice the best dentistry.”
