Faculty Feature: Meet Mohammad Tajik, D.D.S., M.S.
Mohammad Tajik, D.D.S., MS, joined VCU School of Dentistry as an assistant professor in the Department of General Practice in October 2025.
Tajik completed his D.D.S. degree at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, School of Dentistry in 2009. He worked as a general dentist for six years in his home country of Iran before being accepted into the Operative Dentistry Graduate Program at the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry. Dr. Tajik received his certificate in Operative Dentistry and Master of Oral Science in 2021. Now, he brings his knowledge and mentorship to Richmond, Virginia.
What impresses you most about the VCU School of Dentistry?
"VCU School of Dentistry combines research, commitment to patient care, and a supportive learning environment. The dedication to innovation while remaining grounded in service to the community is truly inspiring. It’s clear that both students and faculty are here to make a meaningful impact."
Why did you choose to be an oral health provider and educator?
"I was drawn to dentistry because it allows for a hands-on role in improving people's quality of life. Oral health influences everything from confidence to systemic health, and being part of that transformation is meaningful. Teaching, for me, adds another layer—it's about guiding future practitioners to not only master techniques but to practice with empathy and excellence."
Can you describe your goals at VCU School of Dentistry?
"My goals at VCU are to contribute to the academic environment, support student success, and engage in meaningful research and clinical practice. Ultimately, I hope to help bridge the gap between education and real-world patient outcomes."
What is your favorite part of your job?
"Without a doubt, it’s working with students. Watching them develop their skills and confidence and knowing I played a role in their journey is amazing. Every day brings new challenges and learning opportunities, which keeps the work exciting."
