VCU Pediatric Dental Clinic receives interior design award
The VCU Pediatric Dental Clinic located in the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) Children’s Pavilion was recently awarded an Interior Design Excellence Award by the Virginia/West Virginia Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). Completed in January, the clinic brought VCU Dental Care’s downtown pediatric dental care under the same roof as the rest of CHoR’s outpatient pediatric medical and surgical services.
Presented to PF&A, the Norfolk-based architectural firm hired to design the clinic, the award recognized excellence in scale and proportion, color composition, effective use of lighting, and the relationship of materials, textures and patterns.
“Our patients were at the heart of every decision we made about the clinic, including the look, feel and overall design of the physical space,” said Dr. Clara Spatafore, interim dean and chair of the Departments of Endodontics and Oral Diagnostic Sciences at VCU School of Dentistry. “We are proud to have the clinic recognized in this way and to partner with a firm who understood our needs and the impact of the environment on patient care.”
The pediatric dental clinic covers 4,200 square feet on Level 6 of the Children’s Pavilion. It features 15 patient chairs, including five in private exam rooms. The clinic is flooded with natural light and features panoramic views of the city.
